VIDEO: Lamborghini icon turns 50

The Lamborghini Countach is celebrating its 50th anniversary

The Lamborghini Countach is the car that helped create the legend of the brand.

While the Muria that it replaced was a great car, the futuristic, wedge-shaped body of the Countach changed the game when it came to all supercars when it was launched 50 years ago. It pushed Lamborghini into popular culture and became a literal poster child for supercars on countless children’s bedrooms around the world.

While it’s Ferruccio Lamborghini’s name on the badge, the design of the Countach was led by Marcello Gandani, head of style for the Bertone design house. He was the man who designed to ditch rounded design features in favour of the car’s now iconic angular lines. Not only did he win Ferruccio’s approval, but this design language has gone on to define all future Lamborghini models, including the current Aventador, Huracan and Urus.
