VIDEO: Ken Block is selling the world’s coolest ute

Gymkhana star Ken Block’s 1977 Ford F-150 ‘Hoonitruck’ could be yours

Looking for the ultimate ute? How about a 1977 Ford F-150 powered by a Le Mans-winning twin-turbo V6 and with WRC-style drivetrain.

American rally star Ken Block has been clearing space in his garage since announcing his split from Ford and his latest sale is his one-of-a-kind ‘Hoonitruck’. The ‘77 F-150 is up for grabs for a cool US$1.1m ($1.4m), which may make it simultaneously the most expensive ute ever sold as well as a bargain.

That’s because the Hoonitruck is a no-expense-spared, factory-backed build, reportedly costing Block and Ford more than US$1.5m ($2m) to build. The engine is the same 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 used in the Ford GT GT-LM racer, and the sale package includes a spare engine block. The engine has been tuned to make 681kW and features a Ford Performance developed 3D-printed air-intake.

From Block’s rally roots, the engine is paired to a six-speed Sadev sequential transmission and all-wheel drive system that allows him to smoke all four tyres. Another rally-inspired element is it’s built into carefully designed sections, so any minor accident can be quickly repaired by removing and replacing a clip.

The Hoonitruck made its debut in the Gymkhana 10 video – the final installment Block starred in before Traivs Pastrana took over the franchise – and the Climbkhana 2 video.

The sale is being handled by LBI Limited, the same auction house that handled the sale of Block’s Ford RS200, Gymkhana 3 Ford Fiesta and 2013 Ford Fiesta ST RX43.
