Rare Chevy Camaro headlines Lloyds auction

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Supercars is preparing to launch its new Gen3 era with the Chevrolet Camaro competing against the Ford Mustang. While the blue oval sells its car in dealers, the Camaro is a much rarer beast in Australia, especially the track-ready ZL1 version.

Now one of these scarce American muscle cars is up for grabs at this weekend’s Lloyds Auction, a 2019 Camaro ZL1. At the time of publication the car had attracted a bid of $142,000, but with the hammer not falling until Saturday morning it will likely finish higher than that.

ROAD TEST: 2020 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 review

The Camaro ZL1 was only briefly imported and converted to right-hand drive by Holden Special Vehicles after the end of local manufacturing and the demise of the homegrown Commodore. It’s believed the company only built approximately 300 examples of the ZL1, alongside the cheaper, less-potent Camaro SS.

The Camaro is only one of several desirable cars in this weekend’s Lloyd’s Auction, which is offering an eclectic mix of makes and models.

Ford Mustang ‘Eleanor’ tribute

For Ford fans there’s a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback that has been re-built into a tribute to the iconic ‘Eleanor’ Shelby GT500 made famous by the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds. Despite being a replica and not the real thing, it has already attracted a bid of $150,000 five days ahead of the sale.

The booming market for Japanese performance cars continues with several notable cars going under the hammer this weekend.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Tommi Makinen Edition

For touring car fans there’s a 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, while rally fans can choose from either a 1986 Toyota Celica GT-4 or a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Tommi Makinen Edition.
