Oops! Ford’s $2m brochure mistake

Ford Mustang Mach 1

Ford will be forced to pay out more than $2 million in compensation to Mustang Mach 1 customers because of a mistake in its original brochure.

The blue oval’s brochure said the new track-focused pony car was equipped with a Torsen limited-slip differential, radar cruise control and rear parking sensors when these items aren’t available on Australian-bound Mach 1. The error was picked up in April by early customers who were upset at the missing gear and complained to Ford.

The company has now reportedly agreed to a compensation package that will give customers who ordered before the mistake was noticed the opportunity to return their car for a refund, get a $5400 partial refund or have a free track day and servicing for three years.

Assuming the approximate 400 customers who ordered before April opt not to return the car, Ford Australia is looking at a $2.1m bill for the $5400 cash back offer.

That’s an expensive brochure for Ford.
