The 2018-19 season for Kye Walters went from good to even better last Saturday night at Ballarat’s Redline Raceway, following his dominant victory in the second VMPA Modified Sedan Series round, which doubled as the annual Ern Overall Memorial.

Getting this season’s campaign underway in the best possible fashion with a feature-race win in a recent club show at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, Walters well and truly continued his momentum last Saturday night in what is considered the toughest state-based Modified Sedan competition in the country.

Collecting a win and a pair of third-place finishes during his heat races, the 20-year-old racer from the Victorian coastal town of Torquay couldn’t be stopped throughout the remainder of the event, winning the pole shuffle to start the 30-lap feature race from prime position, before delivering a flawless drive which saw him control the lead from start to finish.

“Everything seemed to come together for us last Saturday night and the car setup was perfect, which meant the car continued to get better with each lap,” commented the Vic # 46 True Design Homes supported AU Ford Falcon pilot, who finished fifth in the opening VMPA Series round at Rushworth Speedway.

“I have to say a huge thanks to my team for all of the hard work they continue to put in. It’s really paying off for us so far this season so hopefully we can keep it up and keep ourselves towards the top of the VMPA Series point standings.”

With Walters having claimed top honours in the 2016-17 season VMPA Series, this season’s results certainly bode well for future rounds as he attempts to regain the crown. In addition to the VMPA Series, Walters hopes to carry his recent form into the National Title, set to take place at Kingaroy Speedway in Queensland on April 26 and 27, in order to go one better than last season, when he came home in the runner-up spot to Supercar racer Cameron Waters.

For his next appearance, Walters will travel to Simpson Speedway in the south-west of Victoria on the Saturday night of December 22 to battle it out in the third VMPA Series round.

Walters and his team would like to thank his 2018-19 season sponsors for their support: True Design Homes, Chris Edwards Custom Race Cars, Barwon Tyre and Auto, CM Towing & Transport, Max Fry Smash Repairs, Rat Industries, I&J Speedway Equipment, and Mobile Sandblasting and Protective Coating. Special thanks go to mum and dad, Kelleigh and Peter, and his crew Chris, Calvin, Mick, Dale, Nadine, Rachel, Jenny and Trish.
