KYE Walters has set the standard for Modified Sedan racing in Victoria this season but this weekend he’ll be looking to prove he is the best in the country.
The driver, who will run the roof number 86 this weekend, travelled to Kingaroy, Queensland for the National Modified Sedan Title to be held this Friday and Saturday night.
Walters was meant to compete in the Queensland Title last weekend, but with the event rained out and rescheduled for May, he’s been passing his time in the Sunshine State dodging the rain.
After setting the AU Falcon up for Gympie Speedway, Walters and his crew only had to change the diff ratio in preparation for this weekend.
The National Title has attracted another quality field, including Cam Waters, who will be making his debut for the season in the ENZED sponsored FGX Falcon as defending champion.
Walters ran second to Waters at the event last year when it was held at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Speedway but is looking to go one better this time around.
“I’ve never won a National Title before, it honestly would be a dream come true,” Walters said.
“I just look forward to another crack at the Title!
“It’s hard to tell who’s going to be good, with 100 cars anything can and will happen.”
Walters raced at Kingaroy in January for the Kings Royal and qualified fourth for the A Main despite having a weekend plagued with problems.
He was in third place when was forced to pulled infield due to mechanical issues in the final.
Despite not finishing the feature, racing the event has assisted Walters in his preparation for this weekend.
“We took away some knowledge about set up stuff,” Walters said.
“Focusing on where we could be faster and putting it into practice.”
Walters will compete in three heats over 12 laps each on Friday night. A final round of heats will be held on Saturday night before a C Main, B Main and the all important A Main are run.
