After coming home third in class at round one of the 2017 APC – run as part of the 2017 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour – the Matt Thewlis/David Bailey Sparesbox/Car Finance 4 You Toyota 86 is ready and rearing to go for round three this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Tyreright Sydney Challenge signals the return to the APC for the pair, after they were forced to miss round two at Winton Motor Raceway due to work commitments.
While they may have brought home a trophy in Bathurst, it wasn’t a trouble-free run for the entry and so it is no surprise to hear the 86 has had somewhat of a birthday in the break.
“It is going to be a busy weekend with four x one hour races, but we can’t wait to get into it,” Matt Thewlis said.
“The Toyota 86 is prepped and ready to go after receiving some much-needed love after what was an epic Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour and our friends at Suspension Concepts have tweaked her up for us ahead of this round as well.
“It hasn’t just been the 86 getting a tune-up as well! Race fitness is key in enduro racing so I am pleased to report that I have been working with Wangaratta Health and Wellbeing on some lower back and neck issues and am back to race fitness in time for this weekend.
“Dave and I are as ready as we will ever be to tackle this weekend, here is hoping we can make a good show of it for everyone watching at SMP, online through thenationals.com.au on Sunday, and of course for our valued supporters.”
In the lead-up to this weekend’s event, both Matt Thewlis Racing and David Bailey’s Triple D Racing are keen to thank those who support them.
“A big thank you has to go from both myself and David to our continuing supporters Car Finance 4 You, Sparesbox, Fobia Industries, Tampered Motorsport, Modern Day Electrical Pty Ltd, Bernardi Automotive and Mechanical Repairs, Supsension Concepts, Grimshaw Signs, Advanced Gas Maintenance and LA Racing Lubricants,” Thewlis said.
“We are also very excited to welcome a new partner to Matt Thewlis Racing and Triple D Racing for the remainder of this season, with Insite Real Estate coming on board from this weekend onwards.
“A big thanks has to go to Prowraps and Graphics for the great sign-writing job they have done on the 86 in preparation for this weekend also and we are excited to also have them on board as a continuing sponsor.”
The Sparesbox/Car Finance 4 You Toyota 86 and the rest of the APC field will hit Sydney Motorsport Park for the Tyreright Sydney Challenge across July 7-9. Spectator on Friday is FREE and only $15 for Saturday, $25 for Sunday or $30 for a weekend pass. All of Sunday’s action will be streamed online live and free via thenationals.com.au
