The Future Looks Bright with Junior Speedweek

The dream now becomes a reality for a number of drivers as we hit junior Speedweek for season 2022/23 proudly presented by Gibbtrans. 22 of the best young drivers from around Australia will duel it over the four nights in what will be a challenge for the future stars of the sports, their parents and crew.

The nomination list is loaded with interstate teams making the trek down to Victoria with New South Wales having the most interest starting with impressive speedway karters Blaxx Caton and Bailey Carter will be joined by recent Lake Liddell feature winner Copper Norman who will once again resume his ongoing battle with Kobi Wright whose form is on point to take on Speedweek.

Daisy Smith may be on her rookie trip down to Victoria in the junior f500 but now has a feature win under her belt which will do wonders to calm the nerves, when she’s up against against Mitch Saunderson and Ky Young who are no strangers to racing in the southern state, especially in the south West of Victoria, both drivers will be looking to start afresh this trip after a little bad luck last time here.

The stage is set for Mikey Green who makes the longest trip of all from Mandurah, Western Australia, yet another driver stepping up from the karting scene this kid has what it takes to mix it with some of the best, with a win at the Perth Motorplex along with taking home the West Coast series Mikey is one to watch.

There is no doubt the competition in Victoria for junior F500’s has stepped up over the last few years along with strong numbers seen throughout season 2021/22.

Rusty Ponting and Koby O’Shanassy both shared their time on the podiums last season in their rookie year and look primed to continue showcasing their potential.

From downtown Cobden Zac Stevens has swapped the spanners for a steering wheel and will enter the field with another rookie Evie Bell who will experience her first as a driver but certainly won’t be her first rodeo at a track, a lifestyle she is no doubt come accustomed to watching her older brothers Jett and Chad along with father Stephen Bell do there work in the dirt.

Zoe Pearce will have a target on her back, fresh from being crowned Stampede and Speedweek series champion last season, the team has gone from strength to strength on and off the track and will certainly be on the PACE, Zoe has shown her ability to be switched on from lap one as she took home 5 heat race wins in last season’s Speedweek.

Maddox Gibbs will finally get to take the car off the showroom floor and onto the track come opening night Tuesday 27th Dec at Simpson speedway with a longer-than-wanted off-season Maddox is no doubt itching to put his best foot forward, to show his ability night in night out.

Dakota Luckett will add to the driver’s list and will be hoping for a little lady luck after a tough night out at premier Speedway, but you can’t take anything away from this young 17-year-old who ticked several boxes last year in her racing which included her first heat race win.
