Temby’s maiden triumph

The 2018-19 Wingless Sprint season recently concluded at Nyora Raceway for Chris Temby, and he finished it in the best possible fashion by coming away with his maiden feature-race win during the final ML Automotive Repairs Series round.

In just his second season in Wingless Sprints, the 17-year-old racer from Narre Warren South in Victoria has shown a fair bit of promise throughout this season and his maiden win was a massive boost for his confidence.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish off the season and it’s a big relief to pick up my first feature-race win,” expressed Temby, who drives the VX # 89 Temby Haulage supported J&J car.

“Winning both of my heat races, starting the feature race from pole position and going on to pass one of the country’s leading Wingless Sprint racers in Travis Millar to claim the win has made this first win even more satisfying and memorable.”

Temby, who had started the feature race from pole position, was beaten off the start by Millar, but he was able to close in on Millar during the latter half of the 20-lap event and pass him for the lead and go on to score the win.

Apart from a maiden feature-race win, other season highlights included a top-10 finish in the opening Super Series round at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway at the beginning of the season and most recently a third-place finish in the 50 Lapper event at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway.

With a decade of Speedway Kart experience behind him, Temby, who still competes in Speedway Karts around his Wingless Sprint commitments, credits that time for aiding his step into Wingless Sprints. Temby’s first season in Wingless Sprints saw him contest a dozen race meetings around his home state, with his highlight being a second-place finish behind Alex Ross in the Gold Cup event at Laang Speedway.

In terms of next season’s plans, Temby is looking to contest around 20 race meetings in Victoria and is hoping to consistently challenge at the pointy end of the field.
