Targa Florio adds new flavour to Club Sandwich

Australia’s new Targa Florio Australian Tribute event has joined forces with Motorclassica’s long-time presenting partner Lorbek Luxury Cars, to give the ever-popular Club Sandwich feature a new flavour at this year’s Motorclassica, at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building on 12 – 14 October.

The Targa Florio event’s involvement will bring with it the new Targa Florio Bar, an alfresco bar and dining experience open to all show visitors, featuring great Italian cuisine paired with fine wines, champagne and aperitifs.

“The Targa Florio Australian Tribute is the only official Targa Florio tribute event outside of Italy, fully sanctioned by the Automobile Club of Palermo and Confederation of Australian Motor Sport/CAMS, members of Federation of Automobiles Internationale/FIA” John Caniglia, Director of the Targa Florio Australian Tribute said.

“Its participants reflect those that are going to be a part of the new-look Club Sandwich at Motorclassica, a mix of classic and modern cars, so it makes perfect sense to align both events to reach the same audience.”

Support for Club Sandwich will once again come from Lorbek Luxury Cars, which will celebrate its recent appointment as Australian agents for Koenigsegg with a display, plus its usual jaw-dropping line-up of modern supercars, sports cars and high-performance luxury models for sale.

“Club Sandwich is a key part of Motorclassica every year and we’re delighted to be involved again,” Lorbek Managing Director Srecko Lorbek said.

“We love the classic cars, we sell a few of them ourselves, and of course we specialise in the modern high performance models which are taking a higher profile this year. It’ll be exciting to bring Koenigsegg to Motorclassica for the first time too.”

Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers is enthused about the triangular partnership:

“We’re very excited to be partnering with the newly-appointed distributor of the world’s fastest supercar and the world’s most ancient and prestigious motorsport event, it’s amazing.”

For the first time, modern supercars and sports cars will contrast with traditional classic cars and motorcycles, when the new-look Club Sandwich is revealed at this year’s Motorclassica.

The new two-zone Club Sandwich display will run at full strength for all three days of Motorclassica, for the first time, which equates to 210 cars and motorcycles each day, drawn from 23 different enthusiast clubs.

As usual, Club Sandwich will display an array of classic cars drawn from local car and motorcycle clubs, but these will be presented for the first time as a timeline of a brand or model’s development, telling the story through the generations.

“There’s no doubt that Motorclassica is the most important classic car show in Australasia,” Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers said.

“But to stay that way we have to keep evolving, and the changes we’ve made to Club Sandwich this year will give it a fresh look, and broaden its appeal for younger enthusiasts.

Also new for 2018 Club Sandwich will be a Whiskey Bar, showcasing six of the finest boutique Australian whiskeys, paired with food from some of Melbourne’s hippest and most iconic food trucks.
