Super2 lead a positive ahead of Supercars Championship debut
Bigmate Racing’s Todd Hazelwood claimed a near-perfect weekend on the streets of Townsville, taking two wins and a pole position during Round 4 of the Supercars Dunlop Super2 Series.
The 21-year-old secured his career-first round win in Super2 and managed to take the lead in the series.
“It was a pretty wild weekend and from my point of view it was almost perfect … we had two front starts and two race wins,” Hazelwood said.
“I am absolutely rapt to get that first round win, I have been trying very hard over the last few years to achieve this moment. Special thank you must go to the key people who have helped turned my dream into a reality.”
The South Australian native will now prepare for his next venture, where Hazelwood will make his Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at Queensland Raceway.
The team at Matt Stone Racing have been preparing for this moment in what is going to be a big weekend for everyone involved at Queensland Raceway.
“My team Matt Stone Racing and I have been working very hard to make sure that we go into this event and achieve a positive result,” Hazelwood said.
“We are not expecting any miracles but we feel our car is pretty pacy at Queensland Raceway when we test among the guys at Triple Eight and DJR Team Penske.
“Our pace was pretty relative but we have got to try the super soft tyre for the first time and the twin spring so we have a lot to learn.
“Being my home track I know how it goes and it will be an exciting opportunity.”
Hazelwood will make his Supercars Championship debut in a few weeks time at Queensland Raceway, on 28-30 July.
