While defending champion Daniel Storer wasn’t quite able to pull of a successful Summer Slam Series defence over the New Year period, the crown didn’t have to go too far, with his younger brother Luke emerging victorious in the second running of the annual series.

A healthy rivalry can always be expected amongst siblings, particularly those who compete against each other in one of the country’s most competitive speedway classes, and while Daniel, the older of the two brothers, may have introduced him to the class, Luke has now well and truly come into his own right during what is his fourth season.

The Summer Slam Series offered numerous firsts for Luke, who had picked up multiple minor podium finishes throughout his career but had not yet recorded his maiden feature-race win, until the opening round of the series at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway that is, with the cherry on top being the overall Summer Slam Series victory.

“It’s a pretty amazing feeling to take out the overall Summer Slam Series for the second year running as a family and it’s a whole team effort that makes all of this possible,” enthused the pilot of the Vic # 33 Castrol / Bill Storer Motors supported Maxim.

“Winning my first feature race, especially in such tough competition, makes it even more special for us. With so many major race meetings coming up, the goal is to build on this form for the rest of the season.”

In addition to winning the opening Summer Slam Series round, Luke went on to place fourth in round two at Hamilton’s Western Speedway and qualify on the outside of the front row for the feature race in the third and final round at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway, which was unfortunately cancelled after just one lap due to a crash.

Following a seventh and 12th-place finish in rounds one and two, Daniel ended up fourth in the final Summer Slam Series point standings.

The Storer brothers will now turn their attention to the upcoming Victorian Title, which will be fought out on Australia Day (January 26) at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, followed by the Australian Championship at Premier Speedway on February 21, 22 and 23.

The Storer Motorsport team would like to thank their 2018-19 season sponsors: Castrol Edge, Bill Storer Motors, Repco – Portland, The Royal Hotel – Portland, Allstar Graphics, Wurth Australia, and RPC Auto Electrical. Special thanks also must go out to the team’s hard-working pit crew, family and friends.
