STEVE ROBERTS COMES TO GRIPS WITH HIS NEW WOLF TORNADO

One of the fastest New South Wales Supersports drivers, Steve Roberts, surprised everyone by announcing recently that he had moved from his trusty Radical SR8 to an Italian-made cutting edge carbon fibred-monocoque Wolf Tornado sports prototype, Steve then stating that he would need to gradually come to terms with the unfamiliar Wolf Tornado before tackling the 2023 Industre Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship in it later this year.
Retrospectively, no one should have been surprised when the Wolf Tornado arrived at Steve’s Sydney racing workshop base just thee days before Round 2 of the 2023 Industrie Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park last Saturday, the Wolf then appearing at the Friday practice day at Sydney Motorsport Park, with Steve then publicly announcing he will race the Wolf in the three Supersports races on the Saturday.
Steve had achieved several high placed positions in his Austwide Freight Radical SR8 in recent seasons, although Steve was fully aware that adapting to the sledgehammer 1.6 Peugeot turbo Wolf Tornado rom the high revving 3 litre V8 Radical would be a time consuming challenge.
As it turned out, Steve adopted a conservative approach to the three races over the Round 2 of the Industrie Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship, with a 17th place, a 13th place, and a 10th place, in the three races, all results of which were affected by starting last on the grid for Race 1 after accidentally hitting the unfamiliar pit lane speed limiter early in Qualifying!
While these results indicate a high level of the Wolf’s potential competitiveness by passing 14 other Supersports cars, these results were obtained with the Wolf’s turbocharger’s wastegate setting lowered to reduce peak power slightly, in what now seems to have been a redundant conservative approach in order to allow Steve to slowly adapt!
Steve is now keen to carry out a more intense practice and development program in his Wolf before tackling Round 3 of the 2023 Industrie Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 27.
