Sherrins ready for APC title defence following B6Hr victory

Australian Production Cars champions Grant and Iain Sherrin have prepared for the 2018 season in the best possible way: by taking victory at the prestigious Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

The outright win was a breakthrough for the brothers and the Sherrin Racing crew at the infamous Mount Panorama circuit following several class victories over the years.

Now, they look ahead to defending their outright and Class A1 titles in the APC – starting with round one at Sandown Raceway (May 11-13).

“I am still smiling and to be honest, it is still surreal,” Grant Sherrin explained, while thanking Sherrin Racing sponsors Tyreright, Hi-Tec Oils, Wirtgen Group, Clark Equipment, JCB Construction Equipment Australia, Kobelco Construction Machinery Australia, Great Whites and Battery World for their support.

“With ten minutes to go we had some passing to do but I just focused on that, drove as clean and fast as I could to the front, and to get it done was just fantastic.

“We are now in preparation for Sandown and are really looking forward to that. It has been a few years since we were there and with a pretty big field and four x one-hour races, it is shaping up to be a great event.

“Hopefully we can be at the pointy end again and hopefully come away with a win!”

While Grant crossed the finish line, Iain – who drove the middle stint of the race – celebrated in pit lane with father and team principal (and fellow APC racer) Michael Sherrin and the Sherrin Racing crew.

“It was very emotional, that is for sure, we had been going to the Mountain for so many years and to finally get on that top step was just amazing,” said Iain Sherrin, who is also the category manager for the APC.

“What a way to spend our Easter, and what a way to prepare for what is sure to be a massive APC season across the year.

“Hopefully we can carry the momentum from this win into the season opener at Sandown – we will certainly be carrying in the positivity, I don’t think any of us have stopped smiling yet!”

Round one of the 2018 APC will kick off at Sandown Raceway across May 11-13. For more on the APC, please visit www.australianproductioncars.com.au or www.facebook.com/AustralianProductionCars or call category manager Iain Sherrin on 0422 449 446.
