Next month, a group of lucky individuals from Scouts NT will set out to conquer the Red Centre in a classic Datsun 1600 rally car when the Lasseters Classic Outback Trial is conducted around Alice Springs from August 18-25.

As the official charity partner to the event, Scouts NT is one of the biggest youth focused organisations in Australia. The NT branch works with young people of diverse cultures in local communities to assist in the development of skills such as working in teams and independently through a range of activities.

Their entry at the recent Finke Desert Race and next month’s Classic Outback Trial, provides their Scouts with an opportunity to apply and develop life skills, whilst incorporating learnings from the Motoscouts program that was launched in early 2017. Partnering with the Motor Trades Association (MTA), Motoscouts is a two year, engaging skills-based automotive training program to assist at risk, indigenous and disadvantaged youths aged 15-24 and give them exposure to Vocational Education and Training (VET) training, driver training and employment skills training.

The Scouts NT entry will join the other 44 competitors coming from all over Australia, as well as a number of international entries from as far as Europe and Argentina to contest the 7 day special stage rally covering almost 2,500 kilometres. Running in a series of loops in and out of Alice Springs each day, the route will see both man and machine tested across varied terrain from fast flat cattle roads to rugged mountainous tracks and sandy outcrops.
