Schedule finalised for new Archerfield season

As each speedway season winds down for the winter break, attention always turns to the new season to come and what each track has planned for the months ahead. As such, with the 2018/2019 season at Ausdeck Archerfield Speedway having concluded on Saturday night, track management have finalised their 2019/2020 event schedule, which includes all the events you know and love, as well as some exciting new additions to the calendar. Sprintcars will again take centre stage, which is hardly surprising given the incredible racing they delivered throughout the 2018/2019 season, but there is plenty of variety amongst the scheduled racing categories to satisfy open wheel and sedan fans alike.Schedule Finalised for New Archerfield Season

The Sprintcar Track Championship will again be staged over 17 rounds, kicking off on October 5 as part of a huge season-opening show that will also feature the first round of the Midget Track Championship, plus Monster Trucks, Fireworks, Formula 500s, AMCA Nationals and Wingless Sprints. In addition to the track championship action, which will conclude with the series Grand Final on May 30, Archerfield will again host two rounds of the World Series Championship, the first of which will be on January 4. The following weekend (January 10 &11) will feature the WSS Australian Open, with the Queensland Sprintcar Championship also on the schedule, to be run over two nights on May 2 and 3. With a round of the Easter Triple Challenge slated for April 11, there will be 23 nights (weather permitting) of racing for Sprintcar devotees throughout the season. Once again, World of Outlaws superstar Donny Schatz will compete exclusively at Archerfield over the Christmas/New Year period, contesting six nights of racing and chasing a tenth Australian Open victory.

Midgets will feature on 12 occasions in pursuit of their Track Championship, while Formula 500s, Wingless Sprints and Compact Speedcars all have 11 events scheduled, with the latter group no doubt already working on strategies to bring about an increase in car numbers after the defection of several drivers into other race categories resulted in smaller fields for many of their most recent events. Lightning Sprints will feature on nine occasions, with Microsprints and Formula 500 Juniors rounding out the open wheel representation.

Following the success of the inaugural GP 53 last month, track promoter John Kelly has locked in three Super Sedan events for next season, one of which will be the GP53 again on May 16. There will also be plenty of other action to satisfy sedan fans with Late Models, Modified Sedans and RSA Sedans making multiple appearances, while Production Sedans will make their Archerfield debut on May 23. With Open Sedans and Ford vs Holden vs Sigmas also to feature regularly, there will certainly be more sedan racing on offer than in previous seasons.

Meanwhile, Dirt Modifieds will feature on four occasions, which includes the Paul Britten Memorial 44 on January 1, whilst Modlites and AMCA Nationals have again embraced the opportunity to race at Queensland’s premier track with eight and nine shows respectively.
