Russell to debut new car at Carrick

TASMANIAN Street Stock champion Nathan Russell will have his first hit out in his new car this weekend at Round One of the Tasmanian Street Stock Series.Russell to debut new car at Carrick

Russell gave his VY Commodore a quick run on Saturday to ensure he had no little issues he needed to sort out before his first meeting of the season this Saturday night.

His former car may have assisted him in obtaining the Tasmanian Street Stock crown, but seeking something closer to perfection, Russell decided to build a new car for this season.

“I wanted to make the new one a bit tidier all round than the old one,” Russell said.

“The biggest change between the two is that this one is a single seat cage instead of the double seater.

“Apart from that I just changed the way some things were mounted to make it easier to work with.

“Besides that they are built very similarly.”

The first round of the Series is being held at Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway, Russell’s favourite home state track.

“Carrick always prep a good track to race on,” he said.

“It’s a great shape and size and I have had some great races there.”

Russell will be hoping to get a solid result at the track on the board as he will defend his State Title there when it hosts the Tasmanian Street Stock Title in April next year.

He’ll first though have the chance to claim the National Crown on his home soil, with Latrobe Speedway hosting the Australian Street Stock Title the week before.

“My goal this season is to stay competitive as well as be a bit more consistent than last year,” Russell said.

“… and have a blast of fun doing it.”

He said he is most looking forward to the Australian Title this season, for a number of reasons.

“There’s always a great car count and close racing,” he said.

“It’s the atmosphere that it brings to the speedway and the great people you get catch up with and meet at these events too.

“Australian Titles are always awesome to be a part of.”

The Tasmanian Street Stock Series continues with Round Two at Latrobe Speedway on November 16.

Round Three will be held on November 23 at Hobart, Round Four on December 28 at Latrobe, Round Five on February 22 at Carrick and the final round will be held on March 7 at Hobart.
