Progress made for Clark at Mid Ohio

Conrad Clark added another Top ten finish to his United States Formula 4 Championship campaign over the weekend at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.

The 15-year-old from Taupo had previously recorded three points finishes in the last three races of the season and continued that streak into the opening race at Mid Ohio.

After starting 12th, Clark moved up a few positions but his efforts were hindered by a gearbox drama as well as the race running behind the safety car for the majority of its duration, including the finish. The Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport driver finished 9th, equaling his personal best result.

Starting inside the top ten for Race 2 Clark made an early charge, making it up to fourth position but was unable to hold his the spot and had to settle for 11th.

The final race of the weekend didn’t start well for Clark as he was forced off the track at turn one, losing a lot of positions.

Clark mounted a solid recovery through the race until a safety car restart when he was hit by another driver and the subsequent damage slowing him down only to be forced off the track again by that same driver on the next lap.

The incident occurred with just two laps remaining and only allowing Clark to recover to finish 14th.

“It was a pretty trying weekend for us.” Said Clark

“In race one we had the shift issue, then we didn’t get the car right for race two and in the final race we were forced off the road twice by the same driver.”

While the result in race three wasn’t what Clark was hoping for, he was encouraged by the car speed he had.

“The car speed we had in the final race was very encouraging. I certainly think we are making great progress and I’m really looking forward to our next event.”

Clark currently sits 15th in the United States F4 Championship and hits the track again at Pittsburgh for Round 4 of the Championship on August 3-5.
