O’Keeffe: Super2 parc ferme postponement a good move

Garry Rogers Motorsport Super2 Series competitor Dylan O’Keeffe believes series organisers have made the right decision in postponing a trial of parc ferme regulations for the series in Round 4 at Queensland Raceway this weekend.O’Keeffe: Super2 Parc Ferme Postponement a Good Move

Originally, the Super2 Series was set to adopt the same parc ferme regulations as the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, in which teams would not have been allowed to make setup changes after qualifying. However, the parc ferme trial will no longer take place this weekend.

“I’m glad they’re not doing the parc ferme trial this weekend – a lot of teams test at Queensland Raceway, and they would have had a real advantage in being able to dial in a setup that worked for both qualifying and racing,” O’Keeffe said.

“It’s the first time Super2 has had a round at QR with the current Car of the Future-spec cars, so the teams that have tested there will already be going into this weekend with some extra knowledge.

“Thankfully, we’ll now have the opportunity to keep tuning and improving the car after qualifying, which will significantly reduce our disadvantage to everyone who tests there.”

The 21-year-old has not raced at the Ipswich circuit since the 2015 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge round, but said he’s not concerned about reacquainting himself with the track.

“It’s a fairly straightforward track to learn, and even though I haven’t raced there recently, I have spent a lot of time there doing ride days, and driver coaching for people in other categories,” he said.

“Even though it’s quite a simple layout, it tends to produce good racing, because there are a lot of passing opportunities and corners where cars can run side-by-side.

“I have a good feel for the car now, and I was very happy with our overall pace in Townsville, even if the races didn’t go my way.”

As with the last two rounds, this weekend’s Super2 round will consist of two qualifying sessions and two races.
