O’Keeffe completes 2017 season inside top five
Dylan O’Keeffe has completed his second full Carrera Cup season with another top five finish, bringing home a trio of consistent finishes aboard the Australian Property and Business Group Porsche in the final round of the series at the Vodafone Gold Coast 600.
After qualifying seventh, O’Keeffe demonstrated stunning wet-weather pace in Race 1, moving up to fourth at the finish.
Race 2 was held over a longer 28-lap distance and after a couple of minor moments, O’Keeffe recovered to finish sixth with a strong run in the closing laps.
A blinder start in Race 3 elevated O’Keeffe to fourth, where he remained throughout the 12 lap distance.
The results saw O’Keeffe finishing in fifth place for the round, and securing sixth place in the series standings.
“The start of Race 1 in the wet was interesting because the visibility was terrible, but our speed was great and I was able to make up some spots,” O’Keeffe said.
“We had really good speed in Race 2 as well, so I was a bit disappointed with myself because I made a couple of little mistakes which meant I didn’t get the result I felt the Ash Seward Motorsport team deserved.
“It was good to finish the weekend with fourth place in the last race, I wanted to get a good start and I did – I was up to fourth by Turn 4.
Reflecting on the season as a whole, O’Keeffe was pleased with the consistency of results and singled out Malaysia as a particular highlight.
“We had a really consistent season, with only the one DNF at Phillip Island, and our pace was strong everywhere,” O’Keeffe said.
“I don’t have as much experience at a lot of tracks compared to some of my rivals, and when we went to Malaysia – a track where no-one had raced before – I showed I could run right at the front.”
O’Keeffe’s attention now turns to 2018, where he will race the brand-new Carrera Cup machine.
“I can’t wait for next year with the new car, everyone will be on a level playing field and all the cars have been sold out, so it will be a very competitive season,” O’Keeffe concluded.
