Double Micra Cup victory for Bedard at Trois Rivieres

Nissan Micra Cup 2015 and 2017 series champion Olivier Bedard dominated the latest round of the championship as the Canadian series competing at the oldest street circuit in North America in Trois-Rivieres.

Starting from pole position, Bédard led all the laps in Saturday’s race despite being under constant pressure from his main championship rival King. The two were separated by just over a second at the line. Last year’s Novice champion, Jake Exton, completed the podium in third.

Sunday’s race kicked off with another Nissan on track, the 2018 Nissan LEAF all-electric vehicle served as the pace car for the Micra Cup series and led the 25 Micra machines to the green flag.

Starting from the pole again in the second race, Bédard lost out to King at the start. However, Bedard returned to the front of the pack midway through the race as King dropped back and eventually earned himself a second consecutive win.

Exton scored his second podium of the weekend, finishing second to Bédard and Valérie Limoges took home the final podium spot of the weekend.

Bédard extended his championship lead with this weekend’s pair of victories. He now holds a 69-point margin over King.

Trois-Rivieres mayor Yves Lévesque took part in both races of the weekend, finishing 23rd and 21st. Mayor Lévesque lost a friendly wager to Micra Cup senior class driver and comedian Michel Barrette—who finished 18th and 19th—and now must mow the lawn at Trois-Rivieres city hall.

The ninth and tenth rounds of the 2018 Micra Cup season will be held on August 25-26 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) for the second time this year.

Silverstone prototype battles looming in WEC and ELMS

Nissan power will do battle in the prototype ranks this weekend at Silverstone, which hosts the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series.

After suffering a race-ending crash at Le Mans, the Nissan-powered ByKOLLES LMP1 will be looking to bounce back in England.

ByKOLLES will field a two-driver line-up at Silverstone with Oliver Webb joined by Rene Binder. The team will be looking to repeat their performance from Spa-Francorchamps where they finished fourth as the second-placed non-hybrid team.

In Saturday’s European Le Mans Series race, a total of 19 Nissan-powered LMP3 entries will compete in the four-hour fourth round of the championship.
