Perth based ARC team Rullo Motorsport is looking forward to a successful 2023 Forrest Rally after completing their first test day with their new Hyundai i20 Rally 2’s. With the cars arriving in Australia so close to the first round at Rally Launceston, the team did not have any spare time to test parts on the new cars, electing to run them with the factory base setup.
Alex Rullo was surprised with how well the test went.
“The test day went very well. We had a program we wanted to run through with some new parts we ordered, all went to plan and the changes were very positive. I was surprised at how much of a difference the new parts made, I felt a lot more confident in the car which is good considering we had a decent start to the year in Tasmania.”
Alex had a brief steer of the Skoda to be piloted by John O’Dowd at Forrest Rally, which is also serviced by the Racetorque team.
“It was good to have a steer in another R5 spec car. There were definitely some big differences to the i20 setup we were running. The Skoda is proven to be a fast car and is well set-up by the team at Racetorque and the changes we made to the Hyundai’s made the cars feel very similar to the Skoda which is also confidence inspiring heading into Forrest Rally next week.”
Father Peter Rullo was also impressed with the changes to the car.
“It was certainly a big difference between the two cars. I think both Alex and I were a lot more comfortable with the new setup and we are looking forward to see how they run next week.”
The two Hyundai i20 Rally2’s will be hoping for a strong result at next weeks Forrest Rally for the second round of the Australian Rally Championship in Western Australia.
