Modified sedan event at Nyora to honour one of South Gippsland’s best, plus state Mini and Lightning Sprint title this Saturday

Nyora Raceway will host the states best Modified Sedan competitors this weekend in the inaugural ‘Russell Bent Memorial’ to honour long time Corinella resident Russell Bent who passed away prior to the season starting. Bent was a long time business man in South Gippsland previously owning and operating Bass Highway Waste before handing the reigns over to his daughter Andrea and Son-in-law Russell Felsovary.

Bent was known on the race track as a determined Modified Sedan race driver often being amongst the front runners, with a second in the Victorian state title for Modified Sedans at Mildura in the 16/17 season his last major result. Bent has left behind a tremendous Speedway family. His widow Glenda a terrific race driver herself many years ago, his son’s Simon and David more than handy behind the wheel as is his son-in-law Russell Felsovary. Plus, grand children Shona and Seth Bent also competing in recent years carry on the legacy Russell started.

With the memorial doubling as a state series points event, it is expected that the best drivers available from Victoria will be in town to compete on Saturday with Brody Chrystie, Martin Hawson, Daniel Simpson, Matt Nelson, Wade McCarthy, and Victorian champion Kye Walters, just some of the drivers to watch.

Sharing co-billing as the top events is the annual Mini and Lightning Sprint Victorian title for the very quick open wheelers with mostly bike engines of around 1000cc whilst car engines are still amongst racers choices. Engines are limited modification wise and are near to stock standard as they were manufactured. As recently as Nyora’s last meeting the class was only half a second slower than the Sprintcars, the Mini and Lightning Sprints will be the fastest class on Saturday night. Expect Michael Conway the winner on February the 11th to be at the front of the field with the likes of Harley Graham, Danny Stone, Luke Graham and Ally Moore.

Also competing will be the SDAV Hot Rods, Open Sedans, Junior Standard Saloons and Ladies Standard Saloons in support of the major events.

Shannon Meakins, Eddie Ivermee and Brendon Roberts are amongst the Hot Rod favourites, Nathan Miles, Harry Cecil, Beau Stuchbery, and Chase Ingram amongst the Junior Standard Saloon favourites, Victorian champion Jaimi Barber and locals Ally Morrison, Caroline Allen, Dette Miles and Victoria number three driver Katie Meyer in the Ladies Standards are drivers to watch also.

Racing begins at 4pm at Grundy Avenue Nyora at the recreational reserve.

Admission is $25 for an adult ticket, cheaper price if you buy an online ticket following procedures on the club’s website or social media page,
