Maverick Racing race at South Gipplands Nyora, another finishing result in the books

Maverick Motorsport has been racing with the Modified Sedan Victorian series once again, and this time to a venue team driver Lachlan had never competed at before. Fitzpatrick acquitted himself well on the tight little Nyora Raceway bullring, on this race night passing was at a premium as the freight train worked around the 390-metre-long venue.  MAVERICK RACING RACE AT SOUTH GIPPLANDS NYORA, ANOTHER FINISHING RESULT IN THE BOOKS

Fitzpatrick began the night with his best heat race result so far in the Victorian Modified Promotion Association using the teams go to base set up for a venue of the size. In a result that brought a tear to the eye of mum, Fitzpatrick finished second to the current Australian Champion Kye Walters in the first race of the night with local Nyora race driver Russell Felsovary in third. Fitzpatrick was the second fastest on track in this first race and had the lead until lap seven of ten, before Walters took the lead and the victory.

The team crew chief Peter tightened the car through the night trying to bring the track conditions to the car, for those that know Nyora, if it isn’t hooked up, it can become tough to pass and it was just one of those nights.

The result in the second heat was finishing at the bottom end of the field however the positives was that Lachlan was still on the pace. He put down fastest lap times better than the two immediate cars finishing ahead of him, Jake Drewett and Rachel Pratt and was just over one third of a lap behind the winner and one of the team sponsors, Brad Wicks. If you are not going to win a race, your happy a sponsor of yours did.

In the final qualifying heat race another great result with a sixth placed finish behind fellow Bendigo racer Graham West. Lap times were a little behind where the team had hoped they would be at, however they did win a battle ahead of Brock Atkins, Nick Hill and Daniel Drewett. Early in the race Fitzpatrick was placed in fourth before being passed.

The thirty-lap feature event had the team one of seventeen cars that greeted the starter. Supporters might recall, the team finished thirteenth at Hamilton in a rain shortened event, the Goulburn Valley Auto Club registered race driver again finished thirteenth at the fifty year old South Gippsland venue. The Australian champion Walters won the event from Brody Chrystie, Brad Wicks, Brock Atkins and Andrew Blackwell a two times Australian champion.

Peter Fitzpatrick had a chat with media after the event. “Nyora is one of those unique venues. Its size is one of the smallest tracks going around and ok tonight was tough. In two weeks’, we will be racing at a track we know very well. Lachlan has set Junior Sedan records at Alexandra and we know the Modifieds have not raced at the venue for some time, it will be a tremendous and exciting challenge. We cannot wait to get back to Alexandra Speedway.”

The team are extremely great full to our crew, supporters and sponsors.
