Brad Markovic has made a positive start to his 2018 Australian Rally Championship campaign, finishing 1st in ARC2 and 6th outright at the Courier Eureka Rally in Ballarat.
The West Australian driver was in great form following his enforced seven month layoff due to back surgery. With only one short test session before the event, Markovic surprised even himself by setting a top-5 time during Saturdays morning stages, and completing Leg 1 in 6th.
“It was a really solid start to the year”, commented Markovic after the podium presentation. “We had a great battle with Adrian Coppin the Peugeot AP4 car. We managed to beat him on both days, and to come out on top it was really positive result.”
“Plus, we won the ARC2 category which is one of my goals for this years.”
“I was a bit rusty early on. But it didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things. We’re still got some things to work on. But to be matching the pace of some of the leading crews was really pleasing. My back held up really well. I had a little bit of pain today, but overall it’s feeling really good.”
Brad’s next event is round two of the Australian Rally Championship, the ‘Make Smoking History’ Forest Rally. “Being my local round, I always look forward to the Forest. I know the roads around Nannup; we’ve got a lot of experience there with it being a regular event in the WA rally championship. So it will be great to be back in front of my home crowd.”
The ‘Make Smoking History’ Forest Rally is the second round of the Australian Rally Championship, is based around Busselton and Nannup and starts on the 27th of April.
