Jason Makris’ consistent weekend has seen him take round honours at Queensland Raceway, ahead of John-Paul Drake and Mark Laucke.
It was an exciting final race on Sunday afternoon, with Daniel Gonzalez taking out his first ever race win, after earlier sealing his first ever pole position on Saturday.
Laucke ended the final event of the weekend second, edging out the overall round winner, Makris in third.
Makris was ecstatic with the round victory in a round where Series leader David Barram failed to finish two races after a race two incident where Gonzalez rear-ended the Chiron driver while battling for the lead.
Barram started race three, but his wounded car was unable to last until the final chequered flag.
Makris himself also had his own battles, including spins and fierce racing throughout.
“Yeah I feel lucky a little bit after that last race – it was really slippery with the dust from the oil dropped in the previous race,” Makris said.
“It was good to get the win. Nothing was consistent about the weekend. Positions had always changed, but a good round overall. Just looking forward to Winton now.”
Carmelo Bonaventura won the Radical class, while newcomer Paul Trengove excelled in his first race in recent times, winning the Hankook Cup.
Prototypes remain on the Shannons Nationals calendar for the remainder of 2019, with the next round at Winton Motor Raceway on 31 August – 1 September.
