Macdonald brothers in form

It’s been a positive 2018-19 season so far for Macdonald brothers Shane and Nathan, with the Modified Sedan drivers showing that they have what it takes to challenge for the upcoming multiple title and blue-ribbon events.Macdonald Bros in Form

While recent seasons have seen them race sporadically due to family and work commitments, the Toowoomba, Queensland-based brothers, who have each been racing for well over a decade, have not only impressed on a domestic level, but on a national one, with Shane having won a pair of Queensland Titles, while Nathan has been twice runner up in National Titles.

Regularly racing the Vic # 4 Complete Body Craft / FJ Haulage backed VE Holden Commodore, owned by Victorian car owners John and Fiona Benson, Shane, the older of the two brothers, recently proved that this lack of track time certainly hasn’t hindered him, as did Nathan.

Heading into the $10,000 to win King’s Royal at Kingaroy Speedway, which is considered one of the most prestigious events on the national Modified Sedan calendar, both Shane and Nathan would be up against it in the feature race, with the former starting out of position 13, while the latter would begin the race from position 19.

It was a herculean effort from the drivers throughout the 50-lap distance that saw them survive the turbulent race, elevating themselves dramatically, with Shane coming home in the runner-up spot, closely follow by Nathan, who clinched the final podium place aboard his Qld # 32 Linmac Automotive / Beutels Transport supported VZ Holden Commodore.

“The Kings Royal was a massive effort from the entire team and we’re really happy with what we were able to achieve amongst such tough competition,” commented Shane, who, in addition to racing for the Bensons throughout his home state and Victoria, pilots his own car: the Qld # 27 Linmac Automotive / Beutels Transport supported VZ Holden Commodore.

“The car was fantastic in the feature race and I’m glad that I was able to thank my car owners and good friends John and Fiona (Benson) by bringing home a strong result.”

This pleasing result couldn’t have come at a better time for the brothers, who are currently preparing to contest a trio of blue-ribbon events, commencing with the Queensland Title at Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway on April 20 and 21 and followed by the National Title at Kingaroy Speedway from April 25 to 27.

They will also be competing in the $5,000 to win Modified Sedan Nationals at their home track at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, which will be fought out over two nights on March 29 and 30.

“It was great to be able to finish the King’s Royal weekend on a high by joining my brother Shane on the podium,” expressed Nathan, who is currently sitting third in the Hi-Tec Oils Speedway Track Championship point standings for Modified Sedans.

“This result definitely gives us a bit of a confidence boost heading into the next few months, particularly given that the National Title will also be held at Kingaroy Speedway and we have been able to dial the cars in nicely.”
