Local knowledge key for FullGas Racing at Wakefield Park
FullGas Racing drivers Dimitri Agathos and Lachlan Gibbons are hoping that local knowledge will give them an advantage when the Australian Production Car Series heads to Wakefield Park for its final round this weekend.
The 2.2km Goulburn circuit holds fond memories for both drivers. Agathos wrapped up the NSW Pulsar Series title at the track in 2015 and 2016, while Gibbons recently clinched the NSW Formula Ford Championship at the venue.
“It’s a track we both know well, and we’ve both done more laps around Wakefield than most other drivers in the field,” Agathos said.
“It’s our test track and I think we have a pretty good understanding of how to set the car up for sustained performance over a long distance.”
Some more developments to the Nova Employment/Castrol/Whiteline/All Drive Subaroo/Hog’s Breath Café North Parramatta & Castle Hill Subaru have raised both drivers’ hopes of a good outright result.
“Since Phillip Island, we’ve been through all the suspension componentry to ensure we don’t experience another failure, and we’ve also fitted a dry-break fuel system which will significantly decrease the amount of time it takes to refuel the car,” Gibbons said.
This weekend features a pair of 300km races and Gibbons and Agathos believe it will be possible to complete the race on one pit stop.
“When you look at other 300km races like the Wakefield and Winton 300s, most cars are able to do the race fairly comfortably on one stop,” Gibbons said.
“In saying that, if a Safety Car comes out at a particular stage, you might look at doing an extra stop to give yourself a shorter fill later in the race – it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
“Our main opposition this weekend is likely to come from the Sherrin BMW M4, Nathan Morcom and Andre Heimgartner in their Ford Focus and Rod Salmon and Will Brown in the Mercedes A45 AMG, so hopefully we can be competitive against those cars
