Little and Ramsdale have big wins at Wahgunyah Speedway

On ‘Dunkley’s Panels and Towing’ race day at Wahgunyah Speedway a terrific day of Speedway racing was enjoyed by all on Saturday with a big victory to Peter Little of Numurkah who took victory in the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association 1000 whilst Travis Ramsdale was victorious in the latest Unlimited Sedan state series round. In other racing Rhys Lansdown led everybody to the finish in Standard Saloons, Daniel Joosten won the Sports Sedans and Corowa racer Marcus Maclean proved too strong in the Junior Open Sedans.

On a black slick track as the day went on with plenty of racing, Peter Little had his Falcon set up perfectly for the’ Francis Transport’ Goulburn Oven’s Sedan Association 1000 feature. Little didn’t make any mistakes and despite the hustle from Tom Schmetzer from Leeton, he held on tight with a half second margin between the two. Daniel McCarten from Albury finished third with Marty Bassett and Justin Ewert completing the top five. Brendan Lovell, Wayde Little, Peter Little, then Stuart Balins, Daniel McCarten and Justin Ewert all won heat races on the day.

Against the state champion in the Unlimited Sedans Peter Cox from Melbourne’s Northern suburbs, Travis Ramsdale from Pakenham went on to pull out to a two second margin during the Lucky Seven’s series final supported by Northern Suburbs Radiators down in Melbourne, that Ramsdale went on to win. Earlier Cox booked two qualifying wins and Ramsdale won to secure their spots at the front of the field for the final, before Ramsdale went on to win the feature event and series round defeating Cox, Peter Schmetzer, Rob Tatterson, and Wayne Eames a Corowa member.

Competing in round two of the ‘Billy’s Custom Spray Painting’ Junior Open Sedan track series Marcus Maclean a Corowa local was just a smidge more consistent lap after lap in front of Jordyn Tewkesbury. Cooper Lack, Brayden Creek and Tom Little all finished in the top five. Maclean, Cooper Lack twice won qualifying races prior to the feature event.

Victorian state champion and local Wahgunyah man Rhys Lansdown dominated the ‘Patrick Wallace Bricklaying’ Standard Saloon track championship feature event in round two. Lansdown cleared out and stopped the clock some seven seconds in front of Trevor Evans with Josh Delarue of the Wangaratta club third in front of Micheal Fleming-Robertson who opened up a huge lead in the three round championship finishing fourth and Rhyse Lavender securing the fifth spot. Fleming-Robertson qualified well with two heat wins prior to the final. During then feature event Fleming-Robertson washed high at one stage as traffic passed on underneath him to move ahead dropping him into fourth from second where he stayed until race conclusion.

Daniel Joosten won the final of the Sports Sedans despite the handicap of competing on radial tyres instead of race rubber. Joosten with the huge margin of twelve seconds defeated Tay Barnard and Jake Cottier. Craig Cottier had won all three race day qualifiers before pulling infield during the final with mechanical issues.
