Leeton’s Long Track Classic returns

Lighting up just once a season, the sole race meeting at Leeton’s Brobenah Raceway’s is always an electrifying affair, and this season will be no different, with the Super Sedan Long Track Classic, presented by De Paoli Transport, set to return this Saturday night.

Having well and truly been a constant inclusion at the massive 940-metre track, being run throughout the better part of the past 43 years since Brobenah Raceway first opened its gates, the Long Track Classic carries significant prestige, drawing some of the state’s best Super Sedan drivers.

With defending and three-time Long Track Classic winner Callum Harper, from Tasmania, not contesting this event, there is still going to be a solid field of Super Sedans. Local Wayne Aylett is hoping that his vast experience around the Brobenah Raceway track is going to help him contend for the win. While fellow NSW-based racers Andrew White, Wayne Dick and Glen Stoddard have their sights on a solid performance.

In terms of interstate contestants from the state of Victoria for the Long Track Classic, the field is headed by former Victorian Champions Peter Nicola and Lucas Roberts, along with Neil Witnish.

Leading the support program will be the annual Graham Bourke Memorial for Production Sedans, which will see Graham’s son and local racer Wayne Bourke attempt to reclaim top honours after his hopes of a three peat were dashed last season by fellow Leeton resident Justin Hawkins.

Hawkins will be looking to hinder Bourke to hold on to the mantle, while former National Champions Stephen Laidlaw and Jacob Mills, along with other locals in Danny Harrison and Nathan Hawkins (Justin’s brother), will also be vying for the top step on the podium.

Also supporting the night’s program will be GOSA Sedans, Vic Sports Sedans, Standard Saloons and AMCA Nationals.
