Motorcycling Australia (MA) can confirm riders choosing to take advantage of Wildcard opportunities at the Phillip Island World Superbike Championship next year are still able to compete in the 2015 Australian Superbike Championship.
Riders are free to race in both the National and International Championships on the same weekend.
MA have communicated with the FIM and received the following statement from the FIM Racing Commission.
According to the current SBK/SSP/SST1000 FIM Regulations, they cannot forbid a rider to participate in the WSBK round as wild card and in a support race (National Championship).
Therefore, riders are permitted to enter both WSBK and ASBK at the same meeting.
Australia’s most talented road racers can officially compete under the international spotlight, racing at the world level whilst also ensuring their ASBK title hunt will begin with the rest of the grid competing in Round 1.
MA’s Technical Officer and member of the ASBK Management Team, Peter Doyle, says riders will have the best of both worlds with the Australian Superbike Championship.
“This confirmation from the FIM is fantastic news for ASBK competitors.” Mr Doyle said.
“Being able to compete with world class riders at a one off round, and not miss the opening ASBK Round means we’ll have a level playing field come Round 2 at Morgan Park Raceway.”

Round 2: Morgan Park Raceway, QLD – April 10/11/12
Round 3: Barbagallo Raceway, WA – May 29/30/31
Round 4: Symmons Plains Raceway, Tas – September 11/12/13
Round 5: Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Vic – October 2/3/4
