Herne’s victory lane debut
In just his second ever TA2 Racing Muscle Car Series round at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland, Nathan Herne reached new heights in the division last weekend, achieving his maiden race win.
Having only made his TA2 Racing Series debut at Sydney Motorsport Park at the beginning of March, to say that Herne was fairly green when it came to the competition would be quite the understatement. However, that didn’t stop him from achieving his best result yet in Sunday’s final race.
Making his way up to second place in his third race of the weekend, the 16-year-old’s runner-up result cemented his outside front-row starting position for his fourth and final race alongside pole-sitter Aaron Seton.
Immediately making the most of his start to drive around Seton at the drop of the green flag, Herne did extremely well to hold onto his position throughout the 12-lap distance, despite immense pressure from his rival.
Driving defensively aboard his Dodge Challenger in order to keep Seton at bay, Herne showed plenty of class as he made the technical Morgan Park Raceway track work for him, going onto record the first major milestone of his TA2 Racing career.
“Last weekend was a massive improvement on our performance in the opening series round and to pick up our first race win so early in the piece is a massive accomplishment that we’re all extremely proud of,” expressed the Lismore, NSW-based driver.
“Running at the front of the field is tough and there’s definitely some added pressure, but having that experience has given me a lot more confidence heading into future rounds. We still didn’t have quite as much pace as we were hoping for, but our results show that we’re headed in the right direction.”
Now enjoying an extended break, Herne, his dad Stuart and their mechanic John Riorden will attempt to continue learning as much as they can about Herne’s Dodge Challenger in preparation for round three of the TA2 Racing Muscle Car Series at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia from June 21 to 23.
Herne is proudly supported by the following sponsors: Gulf Western Oil, Herne’s Freight Service, North Coast Petroleum, Lickiss Fabrications, FX Signs, Revolution Racegear, Herne’s Security Solutions, and Ace Allstars Cheerleading. Special thanks go to his dad Stuart, John Riorden, and the rest of his family and friends.
