Well-known GT driver, Sergio Pires, has shaken the sports prototype racing scene by appearing on the entry list for Round 2 of the 2023 Industrie Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship this Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Sergio will be driving a Tigani Motorsport prepared Radical SR3 in Class 1 of the Supersports Championship, Tigani Motorsport having recently demonstrated their race-engineering skills by preparing the winning car in Round 1 of the 2023 Industrie Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship at Phillip Island in March.
Sergio has been a regular competitor in the Porsche and GT racing scene for over ten years, as well as many other State and National level competitions, with countless podiums, and several wins, poles, and fastest laps, on his racing resume.
Sergio driven various Porsches in Porsche Cup events, as well as Mercedes AMG GT3 and Audi RMS cars in GT events, and more recently, Sergio has teamed up with fellow high profile driver Marcel Zalloua for several endurance GT events in Valmont Racing-backed Mercedes and Audis.
In typical racer fashion, Sergio raced back into the driver seat of the Valmont Racing Mercedes Benz AMG GT3 car for the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour just weeks after sustaining a serious injury in a crash at the VALO Adelaide 500 GT support event in December, Sergio still not having fully recovered by that time, bravely finishing in 21st place.
Sergio continued his rehabilitation by finishing in fourth place in the AM GT class at the recent Bathurst 6 Hour GT support event.
With commitment to motor racing like that, Sergio could be racing at the front of the Radical SR3 class in all races throughout Round 2 of the Industrie Clothing New South Wales Supersports Championship this Saturday.
