GRAFTON’S MASSIVE SEASON SET TO GO
THIS Saturday night will see the commencement of what promises to be a massive 2023-24 season for Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway, and the headlining classes are going to be the hotly contested AMCA Nationals and RSA Street Stockers.
With the AMCA Nationals and RSA Street Stockers being one of the most popular classes around the refurbished 440-metre Grafton Speedway track, and the action will no doubt be thick and fast from beginning to end.
In the AMCA Nationals, the likes of Tony Blanch and Paul Reeves are likely to be the front-running contenders and it will also see the AMCA National debut of Bianca Herne – the daughter of multiple Australian V8 Dirt Modified Champion Stuart Herne, while in the RSA Street Stockers, Adrian Williams, Adam Grill and Connor Reeves will be amongst those vying for the winning honours.
Making up the event program for the 2023-24 season opener will be the Production Sedans, RSA Four Cylinders, Microsprints, Modlites, the return of the Lightning Sprints and Junior Sedans.
Heading into the 2023-24 season opener, Grafton Speedway promoter Mick Corbett is excited about the season ahead.
“It’s certainly going to be a good line up of classes for the season opener and it’s going to set the scene for the rest of the season,” he enthused.
“This coming season promises to be jammed packed with over a dozen race meetings filled with some big V8 Dirt Modified events and also hosting the National Junior Sedan Title that is likely to attract close to 100 competitors from all around the country.”
Corbett continued on by saying that apart from an impressive season schedule, the Grafton Speedway venue has undergone its fair share of upgrades, which includes the new stadium lighting installation was a joint venture between the speedway and the showground society where a $240,000 grant was obtained from the Crown Lands state government department. Funding for the remaining improvements have essentially come from the Corbett family’s investment in the venue, along with a $5,000 grant from Speedway Australia and some Grafton Speedway Club fundraising.
“We wanted to make sure everything was good to go for the SSA Junior Sedan National Title and the Modlites Australian Title as well as the SSA Street Stocks NSW Title in February, add to that the Super Dirt Series over the Christmas-New Year period for V8 Dirt Modifieds and AMCA Nationals with some pretty impressive prizemoney up for grabs and it makes for what is going to be a massive calendar.”
“Last season, we spent $20,000 on drainage for the pit area and every year we will budget to add another 100 metres of new catch fence, so the venue is currently undergoing a complete overhaul, which is exciting for the track’s future.”
The Grafton Speedway off-season improvements consist of:
• A new track surface has been mixed in
• 100 metre of new PVC coated black catch fence
• New LED safety lights
• New LED stadium lighting, wiring and towers for the race track
• Former track lighting repurposed for more pit lighting
• Renovated canteen
• Renovated showers and toilets
• Rewired, relined and air conditioned control tower
• Rebuilding the chief steward’s platform
