Former Supercars team owner backs rising star
Queensland young-gun Sean Evans has gained the support of former Supercars driver and team owner Craig Harris, as he aims to reach the pinnacle of Australian motorsport.
The former karter impressed with strong speed and natural ability when he tested a Peters Motorsport V8 Ute in 2016, and is still in negotiations with Terry Wyhoon of Image Racing to put together a program to compete in the Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Car Series.
“It is my dream to become a professional racing driver, it is something I have always strived for and the Supercars Championship is my eventual goal,” said Evans.
“Craig has been in my shoes and knows what it takes to make it in the sport. Working alongside him inside and out of the car will be extremely beneficial for me to build a racing career.”
Harris has provided Evans with a test in his Trans-Am 2 Racing Australia Ford Mustang at Queensland Raceway, with the aim to step up to the V8 Touring Car Series later this year.
“I’m very thankful for his guidance and the opportunity to drive his TA2 Mustang before making the step up to V8 Touring Cars.”
As a former Supercars driver, Harris understands the challenges of making a name in the sport, and has offered his insight and experience of Supercars racing to Evans.
“I know better than anyone how hard it is to get to the top level of motorsport in Australia,” said Harris.
“Sean has plenty of potential and ability, but just needs someone to take notice and give him a go.”
Plans to secure a V8 Touring Car drive form the beginning of Evans’ national circuit racing career, as he chases the dream of reaching the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
