MEGA Racing Nissan driver, Garry Jacobson is targeting his first Dunlop Super2 Series win in Perth this weekend as the Supercars feeder Series heads west.
2016 Champion Jacobson has six wins in the category, including one at this year’s Adelaide 500, however Barbagallo Raceway has remained elusive to him, scoring a best result of third during his Title winning season.
A difficult round in Tasmania sees Jacobson head to the 2.423km circuit confident of building on the momentum he’s had in the first two rounds of the season.
He has broken the lap record at both Adelaide and Symmons Plains and is relishing the performance of the MW Motorsport prepared Nissan Altima.
He feels as though this weekend and the circuit will suit both him and the car.
“So far this season, we’ve been one of the fastest cars out there, we’ve broken lap records at both Adelaide and Tasmania, so the speed is definitely there,” said Jacobson. “I’ve got more comfortable with it through each time I’ve been on track. There are a lot of different characteristics between the Nissan and the car I drove last year.
“Tasmania didn’t end the way we wanted due to a few incidents, but for me, that’s now behind us and we have to focus on what lies ahead.
“Barbagallo I’ve always enjoyed racing at and I think we’ll have the car performance there.
“I’m only two events into the Nissan program with MWM and I feel like we’re now at a point that I know the car very well.”
With 300 points up for grabs in the Championship, Jacobson is in position to claw back some of the points lost during the last round.
“We have some points to make up and will be doing our best to do that. It is a really tough series this year with a lot of good guys up the front – and there will be a few local Perth boys looking to give us a run for our money too.
“We’re confident that the MEGA Fuels Nissan will have the package to be right on the money from the outset and help us advance up the order again.”
This past week, Garry has been out and about in his local community of Shepparton in Victoria, presenting at a local Careers Day Out expo. As one of the brightest young motorsport talents in Australia, he was interviewed about a career in motorsport and giving back to the Goulburn Valley Community. He had a simulator offering laps of Bathurst in the MEGA Racing Nissan – with it proving just as popular with teachers as it did the students!
The Dunlop Super2 Series begins with practice on Friday before two qualifying sessions and a race Saturday and two races Sunday.
All sessions and races will be covered live on Fox Sports 506.
