Dayco Dave races to third in the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship

Dayco Ambassador David Russell has once again showed that he has the speed to mix it up with the very best after finishing third in the highly competitive 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship.

Conducted across eight rounds at some of Australia’s largest Supercar events along with the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, the 2022 season saw a record number of competitors across the Pro and Pro Am categories with the newest version of the Porsche Cup Car.

This season was the Dayco driver’s first full Pro season in the category since 2015, joining forces with the EMA Motorsport team for their first full tilt at the championship.

To say the season was a success would be an understatement. The 40 year old achieved a remarkable 50% podium (top three finishes) rate for the season, with four podiums across eight rounds, including one race victory at Victoria’s Winton Raceway.

This leaves just one step left for Russell in this globally renowned motor racing category, after being the championship runner-up in 2015 along with another third place Carrera Cup championship result gained in 2008.

“I’m feeling very proud and satisfied to finish third in the championship after starting so late in the piece with EMA Motorsport. It was great to work with Alex Franes and all the hard working guys in the team,” Russell stated.

“With our limited time to learn the car and the year’s tight schedule, we relied on previous Porsche experience to fast track our set-up knowledge to get the maximum speed out of the car.

“With strong and consistent results throughout, we were able to have a strong finish to the season, moving up from fifth to third at the final round,” Russell added.

Dayco Australia Managing Director and Vice President Aftermarket – Asia Pacific, Arnold Mouw, congratulates Russell and the EMA Motorsport Team on this strong result.

“David Russell and the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship has formed a part of the promotion of Dayco products to the nation’s automotive technicians for several years now.

“To see David competing as strong as ever and being in the hunt for the title with a brand new team throughout the 2022 season has been fantastic.

“All of us at Dayco Australia along with our teams around the world congratulate David on another great season and we look forward to achieving more success together in 2023,”
Mr Mouw stated.
