Crick Completes Pleasing Debut Year
MEDIA RELEASE: Although it wasn’t the desired result in last weekend’s fifth and final round of the Toyota 86 Racing Series on the streets of Sydney’s Olympic Park, Cameron Crick was pleased to finish his debut year 12th in the final point standings.
In what was a mixed weekend for Crick in his debut on a street circuit, he battled through a tough run in practice and qualifying sessions to move forward in all of his races and finish a weekend-high 14th in his third and final race, which put him 15th overall for the round.
“It wasn’t the strongest weekend, but I still managed to salvage enough points to move up in the final point standings,” commented the # 7 Ultimate Karting Sydney supported Toyota 86 driver.
“Early on in the weekend, I struggled in practice and qualifying. I loved the street circuit straight away, but with some engine and temperature issues we struggled with the car’s straight-line handling all weekend; however, I was able to progress forward in all of my races and finish just outside the top 10 in my final race.”
Looking back over his performances throughout the inaugural Toyota 86 Racing Series, Crick rated being part of some massive motorsport events, such as the Bathurst 1000 and the Sydney 500, as the highlights of the year.
“Being part of the inaugural Toyota 86 Racing Series was an awesome experience and being able to compete at events like the Bathurst 1000 and Sydney 500 was a big thrill,” Crick said, who rated his standout performance as his rear-of-field drive to finish inside the top 10 in the opening race of the opening round at Winton Motor Raceway.
“I came into the year with no circuit racing experience whatsoever, so end up inside the top 15 of the final point standings is very satisfying and another highlight from the year for me.”
The focus for Crick now is to prepare for a big 2017, which will see him once again contest the entire Toyota 86 Racing Series.
