Camden-based raced Cameron Crick has put a disappointing debut round in the Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge behind him with a strong weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park for Round Two in the 2019 Championship. Racing at his home track under the Garth Walden Racing flag, Crick maintained good pace throughout most of the weekend and found himself surging up the championship ladder after entering the round placed 16th in the standings on the back of consistent and clean racing. 
“It was super important for us to have a good round here after a tough initiation in the category to try and re-enter that pointy end of the championship. The boys at Garth Walden Racing put a lot of hours into rebuilding the car after the damage we took in Tasmania and gave me a great rig for the entire weekend”, Crick stated.
The team had plenty of time to observe the rebuilt cars performance in an extended practice session, which saw Crick post the 5th-fastest lap of the session. Happy with the progress, minor adjustments were made to the car and the 21-year old responded with a 1:30.7231 lap-time in Qualifying – good enough to secure 3rd place on the grid in Race One.
A poor jump off the start line left Crick making up for lost ground for much of Race One, as he managed to salvage a respectable 5th place at the conclusion of the session. A strong start in Race Two was left to waste, as the #77 Car had clutch failures just two rows ahead. Despite avoiding contact thanks to some sharp reflexes, Crick’s evasive maneouvres sacrificed vital speed on the approach to turn one and cost the #777 entry several positions. Crick was again forced to claw through the field and once again found himself finishing in 5th position.
Closing the weekend with an endurance race for the Jim Richards Trophy, Crick came hard out of the gates, seizing 3rd position and engaging in a fierce battle with the #76 entry for 2nd place. Unfortunately for Crick, his early toil took a toll on his tyres, and over the course of the race he fought hard but lacked the speed necessary to contest for a podium. Nonetheless, Crick did enough to secure 4th-position over 10 seconds clear of the 5th-placed car. This result was Crick’s best of his young Porsche racing career, and bodes well for a young man with a fierce work-ethic and desire to succeed.
“I think the big thing is we’re learning. We’re becoming more and more attuned with the car and hopefully we’ll keep growing more comfortable behind the wheel and keep improving throughout the season”, Crick explained.
Crick’s next Porsche outing will take place at Phillip Island between the 7th and 9th of June. Cameron would like to extend a warm thanks to all his partners:
