Focusing on a more consistent 2018/19 racing season, Matt Dumesny steered his Simmons Civil Contracting-backed Sprintcar to yet another top five finish as he crossed the line in fourth place at Valvoline Raceway on Saturday night.

Now tied for the top spot in the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship [USC] standings, Dumesny is yet to finish worse than fifth throughout the opening four USC events.

“It was a pretty solid night finishing fourth, that’s another top five finish for us,” Dumesny said. “We’re definitely focusing on improved consistency this season and it has been paying off for us so far with three top fives and a win already under our belt.

“The track was slick all night, there was absolutely no moisture anywhere, so it got pretty technical. We went out for qualifying and finished fifth, which put us out of three in the heat. We were pretty solid in the heat and ended up winning that, which was a great way to start the night.”

Following a minor error in the pole shuffle, the Valvoline Raceway local started out of fifth position in the main event and began working on moving his way forward on the challenging circuit.

“I was sitting in fourth for the majority of the race and I had a few goes around the top on those closing laps,” Dumesny explained. “I actually lost positions just trying something, but I’d rather try to make something happen instead of just running fourth and not go for the podium position.

“I ended up getting it back to fourth, but we laid rubber at the end there so it was pretty much just follow the leader. We’re happy with another top five though, we’ll take those every day. It’s all about being consistently strong for us this year, we’ve achieved that so far and everything is going to plan.

“A huge thanks goes out to to the guys, Cam [Coghlan], Boydy [David Boyd], Mum and Dad, Simmons Civil Contracting and all of our supporters. Without them we couldn’t do what we’re doing and I’m very thankful to have them in my corner.”

The Matt Dumesny Racing/Simmons Civil Contracting team will return to Valvoline Raceway for round five of the USC series on 8 December.
