Christmas speedway time at Bairnsdale with race cars and Santa Clause to give smiles

Bairnsdale Speedway will once again be in action this upcoming Boxing Day evening with a great show for all that will including Sprintcars, Wingless Sprints, Standard Saloons and Ladies Standard Saloons providing the entertainment, whilst it has also been confirmed by club President Mark Both, that he has an agreement from Santa Claus to appear and in a major coup for Bairnsdale, Santa has asked if he can jump in a race car for a skid!

With Santa Claus brining joy to our children and getting into a race car, there should be plenty of smiles to go around for those in attendance, whilst the on track action from our classes will also keep fans thoroughly entertained with great races, big crashes and winners.

Sprintcars and Wingless both return to Bairnsdale with the Sprintcars fresh off a race meeting at Nyora Raceway in South Gippsland where Bairnsdale man Shane Steenholdt won the event. He leads the nominations for this event with Alistair Bastian and Adam Greenwood also from Bairnsdale and surrounding towns/suburbs and Peter Laity who finished in the top five down in Nyora amongst those set to challenge Steenholdt.

Wingless Sprints had a huge accident to one of their racers at our last show that cancelled the evening due to medical emergency. The driver Aron Lawrence we are pleased to hear is on the mend from a bruised and battered body he sustained, and we hope to see him racing later in the season once again.

At this meeting, competitors such as Ricky Mills the winner of the Gippsland Wingless Sprint Series first round and Wayne Logue, Peter Logue, Thomas McDonald, Kim Gosling, Adin Robertson, Bree Robertson and Jake Warren are just some of the drivers from Victoria to keep an eye on whilst former Victorian now Queenslander Liam Atkinson returns for a racing holiday and is very competitive up north these days and Daniel Goldini from the Northern Territory will be racing for John Rotheram, and Goldini is a top gun up in the north also.

Seventeen Ladies drivers have nominated for what is now going to be round one of a series being held for this season. With the Victorian title at Bairnsdale this season most of the expected title nominations are entered to get this run around Bairnsdale under their belts. The current Victorian champion Ally Morrison leads the line up with Dette Miles, Caroline Allen, Bronwyn Miles, Maddison Miles all from the Nyora club proven to be front running race drivers also coming along.

There is also plenty of developing drivers in the class and the Bairnsdale club have the likes of Jo Richardson, Heather McKean, Sammie Cormack, and Kate Stuchbery to represent the club at this event.

Almost forty drivers have entered the Open Standard Saloon race for this show also and the action should fast, furious and frankly insane with how these competitors bump and grind and bounce of walls, none of it deliberate mind you.

Shane Stewart from Morwell, Glen Pendlebury known as the Sheriff, Jamie Curtis and Josh Thomas all Bairnsdale members and hard chargers, Leigh Gooding, Mark Miles from Catani who won at Drouin recently, Chris Miles, Andrew Miles, Jack Yeomans from Moe, Matt Leek, Kacey Ingram and Damon Ingram from Warragul, Brodie Ardley, and Steven Danks from Drouin are amongst some of the tough competition entered. It is very hard to pick a winner, however Josh Thomas was quick at the first event until it was cancelled, and he is a specialist at Bairnsdale, very hard to beat.

Racing this Saturday starts at 5:30pm and the Speedway can be found at 120 Deptford Road, Granite Rock. Gates are open prior to racing for entry at approximately 1pm. The Consumption of Alcohol is Prohibited at the Bairnsdale Speedway.

Remember Santa Claus has committed to being at Bairnsdale Speedway on the 26th before he takes off to the United States.
