Champions assemble for NSW Title

Multiple Super Sedan champions are set to congregate at Bega’s Sapphire Speedway this Saturday night as they attempt to add more silverware to their already considerable collections by winning this season’s 36th running of the NSW Title, while a field of locals and other contenders will be looking to steal the crown for themselves.Champions Assemble for NSW Title

Leading the charge will be none other than veteran of the class and three-time National Super Sedan Champion Mick Nicola (Vic), whose accolades also include a pair of NSW Titles and Victorian Titles.

It will be case of putting his experience into practice when Mick takes to the Sapphire Speedway track, but no amount of experience will make winning the third NSW Title of his career an easy feat, considering the fierce competition that he will be facing.

Equally as experienced as his brother Mick, Peter Nicola (Vic) has been the leading driver throughout his home state for the past handful of seasons, as evident in his trio of Victorian Title victories. Having previously finished in the minor podium positions during the 2012 and 2015 NSW Titles, Peter has not yet been able to visit the top step; a fact he hopes to rectify this time around.

Despite the significant amount of titles collectively held by the aforementioned drivers, there’s always something to be said for a home-track advantage, which is exactly what local driver Daryl Moon will be banking on.

As the president of Sapphire Speedway, one could argue that no one knows as much about the track as Moon, which is a benefit that he will be hoping to take advantage of, as will his son Tyson Moon, who is currently enjoying an impressive debut season in the class and will be looking to reach new heights during the NSW Title event.

Based in the coastal NSW town of Eden, just a stone’s throw from Sapphire Speedway, Andrew White is another local who will be one to watch, having placed second overall in last season’s NSW Club Championship point score, by virtue of his consistency.

It’s been a pleasing 2018-19 season so far for Darren Anning, who will be hoping to continue that trend with a positive result, while Wayne Dick, Scott Haynes, Kurt Kranitis, who is currently in his second season, Mick Nicola Jnr (Mick’s son), Mark Sommers and Glenn Stoddard will also looking for a strong result.

NSW Super Sedans would like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the 2018-19 season NSW Title: Platypus Pet Shop, MGM Panelbeaters, Momsen Motors, Autopro Bega, and GH Mechanical.

Following hot laps at 3 pm, Saturday night’s NSW Super Sedan Title format will commence at 4 pm and will see drivers contest three rounds of qualifying heat races, followed by the 35-lap NSW Title-deciding feature race.

Sapphire Speedway is located on Tantawangalo Lane, off Mogilla Road, near Candelo.
