Challenges Make Cox Motorsport More Determined

Cox Motorsport have certainly had their fair share of bad luck, with a couple of unfortunate challenges in the first two rounds of The New Zealand Rally Championship, but the team are more focused than ever to achieve top finishes in the last four rounds. “Its gutting to be leading the Rally of Whangarei only to lose the win due to a mechanical out of our control” comment driver Sloan Cox.

The engine had to be stripped back to check for any further damage caused then rebuilt to ensure it was in the best position mechanically possible to compete at Canterbury Rally this weekend. “The car has loads more potential yet, I am determined more than ever to prove what we and the car can do together.” Cox added.

Coming into Rally Canterbury this weekend, the Cox Motorsport team are feeling confident. After reviewing the various issues faced during the rally last year, the team learnt a lot about the typically cold and challenging rally and have put together a plan of attack. Full of areas covered in ice, the rally can be a challenge at the best of times, so Cox and co-driver Sarah Coatsworth have been working together to prepare for the fast and flowing roads ahead.

“The roads we use are similar to the Ashley Forest Hillclimb an event I am very fond of, so I am really looking forward to the rally this weekend. We are aiming to put our best foot forward for the last South Island round before the Championship heads back to rallies closer to home ”, says Cox.

Canterbury Rally kicks off with a driver signing session this Saturday 3rd June from 3.45pm at the Lone Star, Manchester Street, Christchurch. On Sunday the team will then cover 195km over ten competitive stages in the Ashley Forest region, with the added challenge this year of two night stages, with the team finishing up at the Lone Star from 7.00pm.
