Broc Feeney becomes youngest ever Kumho Super3 Supercars Champion at Sandown

16-year-old Gold Coast driver Broc Feeney has become the youngest ever Champion in the Kumho Tyre Super3 Supercars Series after a tough final round at Sandown International Raceway in his Exit Timeshare Now/Paul Morris Motorsports car this weekend. Battling changing weather conditions throughout the weekend and a nervous wait this afternoon as his race start was delayed due to unexpected track repairs, Feeney was super cool in the shortened feature race.

Coming into the race with a 30 point Championship advantage, the Carrara-based teen had to finish fifth or better to secure the Title – his first season in Supercars competition and just his second year out of kart racing.

After getting away from the second row of the grid in fine style, the Exit Timeshare Now driver slotted himself in behind race leader, Josh Fife and quickly built himself into a race rhythm.

In the second half of the race, his closest Championship rival, Jayden Ojeda had his machine hooked up and was moving through the field.

With Team Manager/Supercoach Morris on the radio from the pit lane, Feeney was placed under pressure from Ojeda and drove with maturity knowing the Championship permutations, allowing the New South Welshman past.

From there, it was a matter of keeping his eye in for the remainder of the race watching the duo in front of him, but also withstanding any potential challenges from the closely following Hamish Ribarits and Zak Best, the duo who had also been in the Championship fight throughout season 2019.

Today’s third position added to Feeney’s third and second placed finishes in the previous two races throughout the weekend after qualifying on pole position on Friday.

Remarkably, in the most hotly contested season of Kumho Tyre Super3 Series racing ever, Feeney was able to bring the Exit Timeshare Now car home in one piece in every single race this year, not showing one scratch of damage – quite a feat in itself given the intensity of competition throughout the 15 races over five rounds in 2019.

Thus brings to a completion the season in Kumho Tyre Super3 Series Racing for Feeney – his focus now turns towards season 2020, where several positive discussions related to potential drives will see the Gold Coast hotshoe continue his advancement in the sport.

In 2019, Broc Feeney is backed by Australasia’s first timeshare exit advocacy, Exit Timeshare Now, Boost Mobile, Labrys.io, Ozland Security, Ramsay Healthcare, Firestar Developments, allrentals.com.au, Create & Supply Apparel, Norwell Motorplex and Paul Feeney Group.

QUOTEBOARD – BROC FEENEY:

“What a weekend and what an end to the season! To come away as the Champion after the end of today and what has been a crazy weekend to be honest is pretty surreal!

“We came in 11 points in front, so by no means was it out of the woods in terms of having it wrapped up. Arriving I was feeling pretty comfortable as we rolled the Exit Timeshare Now car out the truck.

“Paul Morris Motorsports set the pole time at Sandown with Anton (de Pasquale) and this car a few years ago, so I was quietly confident but always cagey about what everyone else could do. We were quick at the other rounds, it is just one of those things where you need to put it all together throughout the weekend.

“Once we got the pole position on Friday, I relaxed a little and knew that we would be strong, but the weather conditions we were presented were a bit all over the shop. Everyone else was spearing off or getting involved in incidents, we just had to stick to our guns and not make any mistakes – which thankfully we did. With Paul (Morris) on the radio and Anton’s engineer, Mirko in the bunker with us, we had the ingredients to get the job done, the pressure was just with me, and here we are – the youngest Champion in Super3 history.”

On being the youngest ever Kumho Tyre Super3 Supercars Series champion:

“It is such an awesome achievement to be the youngest driver to win this Series, I can’t drive on the road by myself yet, so it is cool to say that we’ve won this Series, becoming the youngest Supercars champion (I believe) in history, especially after I’ve only been car racing for a bit over a year.

“It has been an out of control year, Paul Morris and his entire team have taught me so much and kept me focused from the very first round. The entire PMM crew, my family, my supporters and sponsors from Exit Timeshare Now onward and everyone else that has been behind us – this means a hell of a lot.”

Options moving forward…

“Now the Championship is done and in our hands we can really start thinking seriously about the next step. We’ve been very cautious the way that we’ve gone about everything this year to ensure that we tick boxes we need to every step of the way.

“Naturally, my plan is to move forward in motorsport and my career. I know there are plenty of discussions going on. From here on, in we can now openly start to analyse each one of them on its merits, work hard on the sponsorship side for next year and see where it comes out – but I’m confident that with this result and the Championship from Super3 that we can move up the chain quite solidly and into something very decent next year. Watch this space!

“Again, I can’t thank everyone enough for their support throughout 2019. It might have looked pretty easy from the outside looking in, but there’s been a lot of hard work that went on right from across last summer and then every single week this year.

“It is just rewards to the team and everyone that has got on board my program this year and next year – well, time to step it up even further!”
