Best Weekend For 2017 Rising Stars At Phillip Island

The CAMS Foundation Rising Stars of Simon Fallon, Ryan Suhle, Cameron Shields and Zane Morse have enjoyed their most successful weekend as a collective in Round Four of the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship at Phillip Island.

It is the first time the CAMS Foundation Rising Stars have locked out a podium 1-2-3 result this season.

All four Rising Stars appeared at least once on a podium across the weekend’s three races, with Ryan Suhle claiming his first win in Race One, Zane Morse making his podium debut in Race Two, and Simon Fallon winning his first race and round for the year in Race Three.

Simon Fallon

Race Three & Round Four Winner

“It was a really good feeling… it’s good to come out today with a fresh start, reset and show that even though we had a bad day [yesterday], keep pushing forward and make the most of it,” Fallon said.

“This is a big boost for us. We’ve had a rough start [to the year]… luckily now I feel like we’ve got the car up to a stage where we’re up the front again, we’re back into it, we’ll go into the next round confident and hopefully come out on top there.

“It feels really good to be the second Rising Star to win a Formula 4 round. The Rising Star program has been really good to us and really supportive, even when we’ve been down. Got us going to put our head straight and where we need to be.”

Ryan Suhle

Race One Winner & 2nd Overall

“It’s pretty cool, it shows that we’re definitely in the game as a team with only two cars. It’s pretty cool to show that we have a lot of pace,” Suhle said.

“I really enjoy this circuit and I love it. It’s a circuit that I just enjoy driving on, and like pushing the limits of the track. It’s cool, you look down and you’re doing 220 kilometres per hour it’s pretty crazy. I just really enjoyed the whole weekend, it was cool to come away with second and tying for points for first with Simon is cool to be up there with the older drivers.”

Cameron Shields

3rd Overall

“It’s been a very up-and-down weekend. Starting with the first race in second place, very good there to get some quality championship points. A bit of incident in Race Two which isn’t good at all, but to come through the last race again in the wet was a really good result,” Shields said.

“At this stage of the championship, it’s up to anyone to win really. Every race the results are up and down. There’s not a consistent person at the front taking off. I think the championship’s definitely going to come down to the last race at the Gold Coast.”

Zane Morse

2nd Race Two & 5th Overall – Best Championship Result in 2017

“Saturday was a really good day for me. I started off twelfth unfortunately, but I worked my way up to sixth position so that was good. In the second race I started from pole and finished second. That was a good day!” Morse said.

“I’ve got a lot more confident after a crash on Thursday [testing]. I had a lot more pace, a lot more faster times and it paid off.”

Crews will now enjoy a two-month gap before we reach Round Five of the championship at Queensland Raceway on July 28–30.
