Australia’s fastest ‘wings and slicks’ race cars headline two day State Championship at Mallala

The second round of the 2017 Australian Formula 3 Series is set to headline a bumper two day program at Mallala Motorsport Park this weekend as part of round two of the ‘Master of Mallala’ – CAMS State Championship with the Formula 3 cars set to be supported by the regular State Championship categories, including Formula Vee which will compete in conjunction with round two of their own National series.
Formula 3 has been absent from Mallala for some years, however their return along with a perfect weather forecast is set to bring about blistering lap times in the low one minute range. It will be combination of youth and experience within the class as former Champion John Magro lines up for Alpine Motorsport alongside young West Australian Calan Williams for Gilmour Racing. SA will be well represented by a four car outfit for Adelaide based R-Tek Motorsport. The cars will contest three races across the two days in a 20 minute plus one lap format in each race.
Formula Vee will have its own interstate flavour as opening National round winner Michael Kinsella from NSW enters the weekend as the key favourite amongst the 29 car field across both 1200cc and 1600cc classes. Drivers in the class will converge on Mallala from NSW, WA, Tasmania, Victoria and of course South Australia.
A monster 27 car field in the Stillwell Hyundai – Circuit Excel category will again represent the largest field at the event, once again showing the ongoing growth and support for the one make category that focuses on enjoyment and economy. The class once again sees drivers from Victoria coming across to take on the SA based competitors, as was seen at round one.
Each of the groups will have one 15 minute qualifying session followed by a mixture of 6, 8 and 10 lap races throughout the weekend with Formula 3 having their own specific format as discussed above.
The race categories contesting this weekend’s event are; Formula 3, Formula Vee, Formula Ford, Improved Production, Historic Touring Cars, HQ Holden, Saloon Cars, Sports Cars, Sports Sedans, Historic Racing, Non-Historic Racing and the Stillwell Hyundai Excel Cup – Circuit Excel.
Round 2 of the 2017 Master of Mallala Series – CAMS State Championship will take place at Mallala Motorsport Park on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June.
On track action commences at 9am on Saturday and Sunday and admission is free on both days.
