Aidan Read raring to go as the Asian Le Mans Series resumes at Buriram

It’s been a successful campaign for Aidan Read in the Asian Le Mans Series in his new role of both mentor to teammate Nobu Yamanaka and race driver for Eurasia Motorsport. Now he begins preparations for this weekend’s 4 Hours of Buriram, round three of the championship.

At the half-way stage of the championship, Aidan and the team have secured a great podium position at the start of the campaign in Shanghai, but a car failure in the most recent event at Fuji was frustrating for all of the team. However, with plenty of test mileage at the Thai venue, Aidan is optimistic that he can help secure another strong result on Saturday afternoon.

“I am confident,” Aidan began. “I raced at Buriram three times last year and recently had a pole position there in the Thai Super Series. From our testing programme, we know the circuit well and have developed a good baseline to start this weekend.

“This weekend we will focus purely on the race result and see where we stack up in the championship for the finale,” Aidan continued. “Buriram has its own unique challenges. It is a short lap, which compresses the field. It will be 35 degrees too and lends itself to very close racing and fine margins.

“It’s an exciting venue and Thailand is a great place to come and race at so I’m looking forward to the race on International Children’s Day.”

It’s been a busy programme for Aidan in the last few months, but the short festive break provided him with time to undergo a minor sinus operation.

“Yes, in December I had a routine operation on my sinuses to help with some chronic issues I’ve had,” he explained. “I’m fully recovered and feel better physically than ever before which is a great place to start the year!”

The third round of the championship is a two-day event with Friday given over to practice and qualifying, while the race starts Saturday at 11.45 local time, 12.45 AWST.
