Adrenalin packed rally rides to help charity at 2015 Targa South West
MEDIA RELEASE: rally – The 2015 Targa South West Charity Ride Day will give motorsport enthusiasts a unique opportunity to help someone in need, just by jumping in the co-driver’s seat of a rally car.
For a cost of $20 per ride, Targa South West entrants will take the volunteer co-pilots for a thrilling ride up the Pump Hill Road Stage Hill Climb in Pemberton on Friday May 22.
All money raised will go to Pemberton’s Help a Mate program – an important community initiative helping South West locals in need. Last year’s charity drive day event raised $4,800 for the cause.
Noeleen Collings who facilitates the program says she is delighted that Targa South West is supporting Help a Mate for the third year.
“The Help a Mate program, makes life a bit easier for those in need,” said Ms Collings.
“The money from the charity rides has been used to modify a home with ramps for someone battling cancer, provide pamper packs for carers with ill family members, and also provide fuel vouchers to those who are travelling back and forth to hospital.
“Targa South West is our primary source of fundraising. If we weren’t partnered with Targa, it would be difficult for us to make a difference.”
Competitor Andy Van Kann, says participants in the Charity Ride day are in for the ride of a lifetime.
“The Pump Hill Stage is a breathtakingly beautiful hill climb, that could hold its own on a world level,” said Mr Van Kann.
“The twisty and slippery bridge crossing at the base of the hill is arguably one of the more iconic spectacles in tarmac rallying in Australia.”
The Charity Ride Day event is generously supported by Auscon Metals and Machinery, Pemberton Best Western Hotel, Cutts Transport, Forest Lodge Resort, Pemberton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Pump Hill Cottages.
Drivers entered in Targa South West will also be making donations to Help a Mate.
Rides start from 3pm, on Friday May 22.
Those wanting to participate will need to wear long sleeved clothing and pants, along with enclosed footwear. A helmet can be provided.
