MEDIA RELEASE: The Finke Desert Race Club recently announced the appointment of this year’s voice of Finke; Bennie Bishop.
An experienced entertainer of over 20 years, Bennie Bishop will work the commentary box across race weekend to entertain spectators. No stranger to Australian Motorsport, he is currently the series commentator behind the massively successful World Series Sprint Cars.
“We were really keen to attract someone of the standing of Bennie”, said Claire Ryan, Finke Desert Race Club Secretary.
Along with Sprint cars, Mr Bishop has crossed the country working with Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars, Yamaha’s Dave McKenna, V8 Supercars and a host of other motorsport events.
“I first became familiar with the Finke in about 1995 when a guy at a Motorcycle store in Tasmania told me about it. Since then I’ve been fascinated with the race”, said Mr Bishop.
“I’m really looking forward to getting trackside and seeing first-hand what it takes to tame this terrain!”
It will be Bennie’s first visit to the Tatts Finke Desert Race and fans of all motorsport can meet him across race weekend at the start finish line in Alice Springs.
“To get to come to the Red Centre for the Finke is an honour I never thought possible. I can’t wait”, said Mr Bishop.
The 2016 Tatts Finke Desert Race will be held on the Queen’s Birthday weekend from 10-13 June.
