The 2017 Ken Leigh HQ Enduro at Winton Raceway has been run and won
30 cars lined up for the 4 hour annual event and as always provide an exciting 2 days of racing. Congratulations go to Victorian team of Rod Raatjas and Andrew Mcleod who took out the race win followed by fellow South Australian’s Wayne King and Gavin Porteous then Joel Heinrich and Aaron Cameron rounded out the top 3.
Contract Resources Racing’s Matt Linscott and Ken Wright had a great start to the weekend after a very wet Friday practice, qualified 7th on a dry Saturday Morning. The race started well for us, Ken settled in P8 before the first compulsory pit stop which we managed to get in under safety car and rejoined in 15th with several cars not pitting, we held position until lap 20 when unfortunately the timing gear failed bringing an end to our days racing. The team fitted the spare engine Saturday night.
Sunday morning brought a bright sunny day and although we would start P29 40 laps down the team was keen to put on a good show. To add to the fun Matt with his IT tech ability managed to set up a live stream feed from the car. This enabled us or anyone with an internet connection to view the in car footage.
The footage can still be viewed at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/206232434
Although we took the checkered flag we finished the day officially with a DNF because we hadn’t completed 75% of the racing laps. We did manage to finish with a track position of 13th if Sunday was a standalone race. We used the day to wave the flag for our sponsors and try a few different settings on the car and have fun. Matt and Ken did a great job of keeping the car straight and more importantly stayed out of anyone’s way so as not to upset their race.
Finishing fourth last year the team was hoping to make the podium this year but it wasn’t to be. Many thanks to our great sponsors and supporters, Trevor Penny, Contract Resources, Valvoline, Pirtek Adelaide, Tyrepower Victor Harbor and Boss Muscle Cars, Horsham.
Thankyou to the Winton Raceway organisers, flaggy’s, marshals and volunteers for putting on a great weekend.
Without you guys none of us would be racing.
